I'm planning on buying a DSLR camera. Right now I have a sony digital camera. I plan to upgrade to a dslr camera very soon. My price range is around 700. The main features I need are: 12+ mp, I do a lot of picture editing and need to be able to zoom in to do precise edits, Full Hd video at 24fps and 30fps, I plan to make movies with it, so I need features to make good quality short films. A range of settings, such as ISO, exposure, white balance(for video), etc. The three main models I'm debating between are the: The Nikon D3100, Canon T1i, and Canon T2i, but if there's a better choice for my needs then I'm open to that, as long as it is in my price range.

I've been looking at the Nikon D3100. I think it looks like a pretty good buy. I don't know anything about the Canon T series, but I know the older D series was very good. I don't think you can go wrong with any of these choices. With DSLRs you need to figure that you'll probably be buying a new camera every couple of years anyway -- they leapfrog each other in features so quickly. It's good to stick with a name brand line of cameras so that your lenses and accessories all fit with each new camera you buy.

The D3100 has one feature that the Canons do not have, and that is autofocus while shooting video. But other then that, all three of the cameras will do what you want them to do.

You need 12MP+. For viewing pictures on the monitor, we need 5MP (sometimes even too much). More don't make sharper or crisper images. So be happy that today we have 10MP+ cameras constantly, cause it's much more than we need.

Can you edit Full HD videos on your PC? Did you try? You don't want lag, but HD will be probably fine.

Image Quality is same one 2000$ and below models.
