Getting my new studio strobe to work with my Nikon D3000?

I'm an armature photographer and i was hoping to get some experience with studio lighting so i purchased a set from amazon.com that was fairly cheap so i could play around with it until i got comfortable enough buy a full studio set.

This is a link to the set i purchased: http://www.amazon.com/...001O0V8HE/

I've had some trouble getting it to work with my camera so I was wondering what i'm doing wrong. Are the receiver and transmitter not compatible with a D3000 or could i be missing something?

No, they're compatible with your camera.
What "trouble" are you having?
Put the transmitter in your camera's hot shoe. Put the receiver on one of the strobes, and plug its cord into the strobe's sync socket (make sure the receiver is turned on). Plug in both strobes -- the one without the receiver will operate as an optical slave. Put your camera on "M" mode, set it to a shutter speed under 1/200th, adjust the aperture for the light levels, and fire away.

It is possible that the receiver and transmitter are not set to the same frequency. Check those little switches marked 1 and two and see that they match.
