Can i use external flash if my nikon d5000 built-in flash not working?

We returned the camera to the store to check the built-in flash since it is under service warranty. After checking they said that the flash has a circuit problem which is expensive if they will repair it. Can we buy external flash instead of repairing the built-in flash? Hope to hear answers or suggestion from you.

If it is under warranty, why would they charge you to repair it. That I don't get at all.

The D5000 should be covered under the Nikon 12 month warranty. Have you contacted them? They are really your first line of warranty service. Store extended warranties cover the repairs that are needed beyond the standard factory warranty.

Call Nikon and ask them what they recommend. 800. NIKON-UX

And yes, whether you get the cameras flash repaired or not, you can use an external Nikon flash any time.

Who is this store? They seem to be using some shady business practices. What did you spend extra money for an extended warranty if they are going to charge you for working on your camera? That would be a serious waste of money in my view

The ONLY extended warranty I would be tempted to buy is one that replaces the camera even it is on fire or dripping with fluids.

I'm with the ace on this, this should be fixed under warranty. Also, it's not something that easily breaks due to mistreatment.
