Family partys/sporting event photos would a 18-55 lens be ok on a nikon d50?
Family partys/sporting event photos would a 18-55 lens be ok on a nikon d50?
If you are close to the sport it is fine but if you are say, 30 yards away or more it is going to be too short.
Depends… What parties/events are you talking about?
are you up close and personal or from a respectful distance…
get an 18-250mm lens to cover all the bases…
Are you shooting for fun or for profit?
Also, parties and sports are two different things.
---PARTY
If you are shooting for fun then yes… A kit lens will be fine. If you are shooting for a client then no… The kit 18-55 is slow and typically very soft. The image quality isn't there.
---SPORTS
The 18-55 won;t really work for most sports… You'll need quite a bit more reach than 55mm… 55mm is a good portrait focal length, not really good enough to zoom in and get a goal tender stopping a puck or a soccer player bouncing the ball on his head.
For sports, you'll want a 70-200 f2.8 and maybe an extender/teleconverter to give it a bit more reach depending on the sport.
---FINALLY
If you are shooting for clients, you'll need more than one camera and a kit lens (backup camera, fast glass, shoe mount flash… ).
