About the Polaroid PL-108AF Studio Series flash?
I'm looking for a cheap flash unit for my Nikon D3000, this Polaroid PL-108AF Studio Series is one of the cheapest I found. Does anyone know if it is safe to use with my D3000?
It's safe to use but it's not a very good spec - no swivel head, no zoom flash, a meagre bounce function. There are better flashes out there for not much more money.
If you want TTL (auto flash metering), there's the YN465;

or if you are prepared to set flash power manually, there's the YN460-II;

Personally, I use a mix of Nikon speedlights and cheaper manual flashes, mostly off camera using triggers. My favourite is the YN560 - £40-50 and again, fully manual.
