I found this Focal DA-2000 flash unit in my house the other day and tried it on my Nikon D3000.It worked fine, but then when I tried to use it again today it didn't work. Does anyone know if this flash is supposed to work with D3000's? Or if it is safe to use with one?

The flash is not on this list as pertains to trigger voltage:

I can't find any other hard data on that flash, but unless you KNOW it does not have too high voltage at the hot shoe contacts, it is not a good idea to use it. You could ruin your camera. There are plenty of very low cost flashes out there that are safe to use with your camera. No need taking the risk with that Focal.

I would not use it without a safe sync http://www.ebay.com/...Categories or a wireless transmitting device. I managed to burn out my electronics on a camera using the wrong flash by error and it cost me over $160 to repair.

I never heard of a Focal DA-2000 flash, and I didn't see it listed here… Http://www.botzilla.com/photo/strobeVolts.html

BUT… From a forum discussion on the DA-2000 flash from 2010… "I found a Focal DA-2000 flash from my dad's closet (was helping him clean up)… I'm assuming its pretty bad, because my dad never owned any good camera equipment."

"Focal is/was a Kmart house brand."

"I looked in several places on the Web, but couldn't find specs for this flash. It might have too high a sync voltage, which could fry your camera. I wouldn't put it in the hot shoe, nor connect it with a cord, unless running it through a Wein Safe-Sync or similar protective device."

"I wouldn't use it. For <$100 you can buy any number of flea-bay flashes that are 100% compatible, voltage-wise, with a modern DSLR. I wouldn't risk my equipment on it."
