Anything about these two lens?

Nikon 28-105 F3.5-4.5 D INTERNAL FOCUS MACRO
Nikon 18-135 F3.5-5.6 G ASPHERICAL ED INTERNAL FOCUS DX AUTO FOCUS-S
By the way, I have a nikon D70 if that helps. I also need help looking for a lens that is versatile but superior to the kit lens so I have a budget of tops 300. These 2 stood out to me and I found a good deal for them.

The first, I've owned one of those for years. Beautiful lens, extremely sharp and the 1:2 macro is nice to have. Loved that lens.
Not much wide though on a D70. A good one can be found for a decent price. Don't bother with the nikon hood, get a universal screw-on. Because of it's chunky and partially metal build it's a very bad lens for zoo or tropical greenhouses, it takes ages for the fog to clear after a sudden temperature change.
The 18-135 is another gem, extremely sharp, very little distortion. Can be had very cheap because it was soon succeeded by the 18-105 which was slightly less good but did have VR.
Tricky, the first doesn't give you much wide but does give you an excellent "macro" option ( on a nikon d50). I shot that combo for quite some time, a 18-55 for when I wanted wide and a 28-105 as walkaround.
The 18-135 gives you an awesome range with quality but no macro… I find the handling a bit less than the 28-105
This is a good 18-105 review: http://www.bythom.com/18135lens.htm and this is spot on for the 28-105: http://www.naturfotograf.com/lens_zoom_02.html#AF28-105IF
Both these lenses would autofocus on a D70.

Well, the 18-135 *is* a kit lens. My D80 came with that lens. Actually, I like it quite a bit. There are plenty of shots in my Flickr made with the D80 and kit lens combo. But it is not really a huge step from the 18-55, or whatever the usual kit is now, although it is probably a little sharper and perhaps build quality is a little better. Here are a few shots with the 18-135 and D80:
I do not have the 28-105.It has a reproduction ratio of 1:2, or half life size, so it is not a true macro. It is a "full frame" fx lens, so it won't have the same filed of view on the D70 as it would on a 35mm body. It won't autofocus on the entry level bodies, but I believe the D70 has the motor built into the body. It is a pretty good lens. But if you need WA, it won't be.
