Do you use a Canon or a Nikon dslr and why?

I use a Nikon D90 but I have been curious about canon. I just wanted to hear some opinions.likes/dislikes about which you use and which model.

Both are excellent makes of camera, but I chose Nikon because;

- far greater range of legacy glass. Nikon has not changed it's lens mount since 1959 so all lenses made since then will fit & work on my D300. Some of the older lenses can be had cheaply & are superb optical quality! Canon changed it's lens mount in the late 1980's such that any old Canon lenses made before then will not fit modern Canon bodies.

- greater flexibility to control off camera flash. This is important to me as I do a LOT of off camera flash work. Apart from the entry level bodies, all mid range & higher end prosumer Nikon bodies have wireless flash control built in. Only the canon 7D has this feature - for other canons/ you have to buy an extra ST-E2 unit to fit on the hotshoe. Also, Nikon can fire any flash (Nikon or third party) off camera in rear curtain sync mode. Canon is unable to do this (it's can't even fire its own branded flashes off camera in rear sync).

- I also like the feel & button position/menu layout of the Nikon - intuitive & easy to use.

I shoot with a Canon 1000D and it's just excellent. From what I'm hearing it's one of Canon's most popular models because it does a beautiful job and is priced just right at about $500 with a kit lens.
I've had mine for a year and it's giving me exactly the results I want.

One reason I prefer Pentax is that I can buy their entry-level models at lower prices without having to deal with lens autofocus and metering incompatibilities and undocumented errors.

I don't use either- because I work in marketing.

But also they just aren't for me. I don't like the way they are set up. I adapt Minolta primes on a Olympus body. I get quality and speed for under $100 per lens.

Stick with your D90 it is an excellent dSLR and that's coming from a Sony A700 user.
