I know i'm not the best, I haven't taken any classes, and have a relatively low class dslr (nikon D3000) but I'd really like to pursue photography. So tips would be nice?

Practice… Learn your camera! I have had the D5000 for exactly a year and am now actually being asked to photograph weddings, families, and seniors, etc. I'm self taught but would love to pursue a career in photography. Its all in what you see in the world and how you capture it. Learn your camera but also learn yourself and your style. Once you know what you like you can learn what to do to achieve it.

FYI… Some colleges offer workshops as well as classes for photography… Check out one near you and see if anything is available.

… AND you should post some pics of what you can do on here for us to see… Constructive criticism can go a long way.

Take a class! Even if your not good (by other peoples standards). If it's something you enjoy you should do it!

I also have a Nikon. I started out with photography just being a hobby. I learned my camera. I went to the library and got books and ordered magazines. I read and read and shot and shot and read and shot and practiced. Thats the the way I learned. I was a self-taught. No classes.'
I'm now doing weddings and graduations and proms. I bought some lights and now going to start a port.studio. It all takes time.
I had a notebook. I took a shot.wrote down my Ap and SS. And viewed photo on the PC. I noted the good shots and the bad. I also chatted online and I found alot of photographers. I picked their brains.lol
So practice and patience is the KEY. Good luck. Post some on here and we will be glad to help you. Have a good shooting day!

"tips".

Yeah here is one. If you are going to ask this sort of question then at least put a link to some of your pictures so people can advise what you should/should not be doing.

Put some of your pics on websites like Flickr and see what people say about your pictures.
