Do Clip-on mics work with the Nikon D3100?
I own a Nikon D3100 and have just learned that no external microphones can be put together with the microphone. This is rather upsetting because I bought the camera mainly for film. Are there other ways to improve the audio (Do not tell me to record the audio sepretely and then sync it in with the video. I do not have the equipment for this. My main question is can I use Clip on mics etc.
Added (1). Can someone please just tell me how to improve the audio on my Nikon D3100?
By "clip-on" do you mean a microphone that mounts on the cameras hot shoe?
If so, there are many different products available.
Here is a link to just some of them

Since you mentioned that you bought a fine dSLR to use as a video camera, it is clear you did not do a lot of research.
You need to read these two links. You will see that buying a D3100 is just the tip of the iceberg

Buying a dSLR with a video feature is really not the best way to go if your purpose is to shoot video.
Having done a career in broadcast television videography I'll assume by "clip on" you mean a lav mike that mounts on a lapel? Is that correct?
Not being familiar with Nikon products, I'm a Canon guy, if your camera takes an external mike sure as long as you have the correct input plug.
By the way, this being a digital camera you can't "film" with it. You can shoot / record video but film is a completely different media.
