Compatible lenses for Nikon D40 SLR?

What are the compatible lenses for Nikon D40?
is the lens 'Nikon AF 70-300mm f4 f/4-5.6G G Telephoto Zoom lens' compatible with D40?

Any Nikon lens should work with the D40. There are some manual lenses that will not meter or work in any mode other than manual. Only the AF-S lenses will autofocus with the D40. The model of Nikon 70-300mm which is not the AF-S VR will not autofocus with the D40.
(VR per se is not required to autofocus, but the only Nikon 70-300mm that is AF-S also happens to be the VR model.)

It will be manual focus. I've owned that lens and it's worth the 100 euros or so it sold for. Not more than that. If you want AF then look at a 55-200 VR, if you really, really need 300mm then keep saving for the 70-300 VR which is really the best telezoom this side of 500 euros.
