Can the digidude 1ichomp be used as a dslr tripod?
I want to get the digidude 1ichomp as a tripod for my nikon d3100. But will it Stand the weight?
I highly doubt it.
You should consider the Manfrotto 709 Digi Tabletop Tripod. It has gotten favorable ratings for use with a DSLR. It could fit in a coat pocket or possibly in some camera cases.
If you want something tiny, use a compact camera and the Giottos 5-Section Mini Ball-Pod Tripod. It is about as compact as the Digidude, and it has gotten favorable reviews for use with compact cameras. I haven't seen any reviews commenting on DSLR experiments with it.
I managed to find my Giottos Ball Pod. With my Nikon D90 and 16-85mm lens it is minimally adequate. It has to be tightened pretty hard to keep the camera from drooping down, but it can be done. An 18-55mm lens should be lighter, so the D3100 would probably work more easily, but it is still more than the little Giottos Ball Pod is meant for. I think anything lighter than the Manfrotto 709 is likely to be unpleasant to try to use with a DSLR.
