Can a Nikon D5100 do light painting? - 1

I'm planning on getting a good photography camera, and I want to light paint So I'm wondering is a Nikon d5100 a good camera for that? If not what other camera would you recommend or if a canon or nikon is better?

For the second part of your question, I'm a user of both Canon and Nikon, and my personal preference is Canon. There's really nothing I can say against either one, it's just a matter of preference. My Canon pictures, when not taken on Automatic, just look softer and have a better bokeh than my Nikon does, but on my Nikon, the colors come out closer to the actual color of whatever the subject is. I also personally prefer the portraits on my Nikon, but the only portraits I have taken on it have unfortunately been on automatic.
As for the light painting, a Nikon D5100 can do it, definitely. You just have to be able to have a slow enough shutter speed. I'm not sure what the kit lenses are, but as long as they can go low enough to get it, you should be fine.
