Best Underwater Housing for Digital SLR?

I'm looking for a good housing system that is on the less expensive side. I know that this is not a thing that i should go cheap on. However I'm looking around and currently I can only find housing that costs more than my camera is worth… I have a nikon d5000. I bought is at 800 but am now seeing it for about 650ish. Any advice on what system or such i should look at?

Not going to happen. A decent housing you don't get much change out of $1k

Jeroens estimate is a little optimistic, my housing cost well in excess of £2500 over 10 years ago. A much cheaper way to go is to buy a waterproof point and shoot, these work very well at snorkeling depths.

I have a, now old, Penax W10 which works much better than I expected. It is a 'bright day' camera as any 'point and shoot' is, but give it enough light and it works very well.

Waterproof Case is a PVC vinyl Waterproof underwater housing case, made to carry a SLR camera with a lens attached. The bellows type lens system 2.0-5.9" (5.0-15cm) allows the waterproof case to be used with many lenses. It can be used underwater to 16.4 ft (5m).It's easy to control with a built-in finger sleeve. It protects the camera from water, sand, dust, etc. The housing meets JIS IPX8 requirements for underwater usage and a neck strap is included.
