I'm fairly new to photography, but I'm really looking to get into it more. I currently have a Nikon D3000 and am looking into getting another lens for it. I'm looking into the 55-200mm and the 55-300mm. What lenses do you recommend that work really well and are used often? I don't have alot of money, so I'm just looking for a lens that I could use alot. Any input will help!

I would really suggest that you learn how to use your camera with the lens you have and save your money for a quality lens. The ones you are looking at are ok, but if you want quality you really aren't going to get it for cheap.
The kit lens is pretty great for learning on.
If you find you NEED zoom NOW and can't wait there are a few out there. I can't tell you which consumer lenses are decent or not in Nikon, but Ace and a few of the other guys are Nikon shooters and can give you advice as to which one will be OK.

There's no "one size fits all" lens that would suit every photographer. It depends on personal variables such as what subjects do you usually favor in your photographs (architecture, nature, portraits, etc.) and taste. I would encourage you to take pictures of subjects and environments that you like with what you have now and take note of how often you say to yourself, "Gee, if only I had a lens that could capture X, Y, or Z better." After a few months, you'll likely see a pattern to your "wish list" that reflects your personal style. You may find that you wish you had a wider angle lens or a telephoto lens with greater magnification or you may even notice that you like subjects that require a macro lens for extreme close-ups or a lens that has a very wide maximum aperture (f/1.4 or f/2) that captures subjects in very low light, etc. You won't know your personal style and taste until you take a few hundred photos. Then you'll make a decision that fits you best.

Have fun and welcome to the club. )

Save up and buy the 18-105mm. And sell your kit lens if you want extra money.

Lenses are very dependent on the type of photography you do.

I do alot of event and portraiture so I shoot with the following lenses.

Canon 24-70 f2.8 L (1600$Can +tax)
Canon 70-200 f2.8 L (2600$Can +tax)
Canon 50 f1.8 (140$Can +tax… Might splurge and get a f1.4 instead)

Those are the 3 lenses I use the most.

Here are other lenses I own that I barely ever use.
Sigma 70-300 f4.5-5.6 (450$Can +tax +/-)
18-55 Kit lens (I have 2 of those came with my cameras)

I've also shot with a Canon 800mm lens… Took pics of the moon with it, it was amazing.
