Best Nikon DSLR Picture/Image Quality?

Heritage

I'm looking for the best Nikon dslr camera that will give me an amazing picture quality, at the moment i have the nikon d3100 which is a really good camera but i've been looking at the nikon d90 as a better picture quality, i don't care about video shooting, i just need a better camera that will produce an amazing picture, is there any other better camera for an amazing picture than the D90 or should i just go for D90?

Added (1). My budget is between £100-£800… Thanks

I just purchased the D3100 and find the picture quality to be amazing. I did a little research on user reviews of some of the reviewers posted pictures that they took with the D3100. I was impressed enough to buy it. I'm quite happy with it.

The most important piece of equipment is the nut that
holds the camera. You can get amazing pictures with
the D3100. Go to photosig and browse by camera model.
Enter yours and see what your camera is capable of.

Makes no difference… There isn't a significant difference in sensor performance to count. Your skill is going to affect the image in a much more obvious way. Lenses also will probably make a difference, but not as much as the user.

You could probably get away with buying a D80 or D200 second hand, and then some good glass.

Good luck finding a Nikon D90 for a £100. They are around the £499 mark new and £350 for a 2nd hand minter (body only prices) If you are serious about good quality pictures keep your D3100 and invest in some top quality glass to mount infront of it.

The video option is showing up on most all dSLR's now, so just ignore it if the camera you buy happens to have it.

Actually you should be getting amazing images from your D3100

Theoretiacally the Nikon D5100 should provide you with better image quality if you are shooting RAW or Large/Fine in the JPEG mode, but it is doubtful that you can tell the difference on a computer monitor which can only resolve 72 dpi.

You can find a Nikon D5100 on Amazon UK for about £520 or the amazing Nikon D7000 for just under £795. Both prices are for body only if you intend to keep your old lens

Nikon DSLRs start at 350 pounds, with the D3000, almost 3 years old camera.

No DSLR has better quality, especially when looking below $3000. Colors etc., it's all the same and D90 and d3100 have the same quality. In fact, D3100 has less noise at higher ISO speeds, due to being newer! D90 on the other hand is bigger, has a top LCD screen and faster AF.

An amazing picture is relative. If you don't know how to shoot, it'll be bad. If you know, any DSLR will do the same.

Nikon d90 is actually a good choice. Been wanting the D90 since launch, only just managed to buy it now - it's been worth the wait. A great kit with the 18-105 lens. I did not buy this for the video capability, which has obvious limitations. This is a semi-pro DSLR and one of the best cameras from the Nikon stable, the fact it is still available even though 'superceded' speaks volumes.
