Best jack of all trades lens for Nikon D70?

I've just bought an old Nikon D70 but it came without a lens. Can anyone recommend a cheap lens that I can get that will let me take photos of bars of soap and general family photos at the park etc.

I don't need a mega zoom and won't take pictures of tiny objects and just want a cheap all-rounder to get me started.

That's what the 18-55mm lens is for.

You can pick up a used one fairly cheaply, but try to track down a dealer who'll throw in a warranty - just in case.

The 18-55mm kit lens should do it all.
