Beginner SLR cameras

I'm really into photography and for my upcoming birthday i want to ask for a beginner SLR camera. I looked some stuff up on google and found that the Nikon D3100 is a beginner SLR camera. My friend is really into photography too and a beginner and she recently got a Canon EOS rebel T1i and she suggested that i should get that too. I did some research on that one and i really like it. Which one should i get? Or do you have any suggestions?

Get the nikon, ugh i had a canon and it paled in comparison.

Canon Rebel T2i is great for beginners

Anything in the Rebel series is a good choice. Take the time to read the manual to set up your camera correctly. You can get away with taking good pictures coming straight out of the box, but they will So much better if you understand what you are doing.

Canon makes great DSLR cameras. Go somewhere park ect to take photos and share lenses until you get a few lenses for yourself.

Get what you want whwen you know what you want and why you want it. A camera is not something you get to impress your friends, it is not a new handbag or a smart pair of shoes.
It is a tool that will help you get a result.
Get a job. Save the money. Once you have raised the cash through working for it you will be much better qualified to spend it. At the moment it looks like you will be asking your parents to spend the money and you have not yet mentioned what they think you should get. As it is their money I would have talked it through with them first!
