Adive on taking martial arts photos for a beginning photographer?

I'm taking pictures for a family friend at a karate ceremony. I shoot with a Nikon D3100 and I have 18-55 and 55-200 mm lenses.

I have no idea how to technically take these shots - ISO? Aperture? Shutter speed?

Depends where you are and what you are shooting…

I've shot competitions, displays and gradings… You need to know your equipment and the venue to get the best spot to shoot…

and everything depends on what you want to show…
