About Nikon D5100 DSLR?

When VR is on in 18-55mm
and while seeing in viewfinder if I press half shutter button it'll be auto focused but when I release shutter (shutter button without pressing further) button image in viewfinder will shift a little (very little if carefully observed)!
But when I switch off the VR image shifting is not seen in viewfinder.
Is this common in all DSLR?
Although image is not affected. I just wanted to know…

Yes, this is normal. The optical VR in the lens deactivates rather suddenly to preserve battery power, resulting in this light shift.
