A really good camera?

I want to invest in a good camera, and I heard of the Nikon D5100, does that have good quality, and is it worth the money for both videos and photos? I'll be using it for tons of videos and photography. If not this one, what's another one that's not that pricey that has great quality?

Cannon is as well as Nikon, in my opinion, i prefer Canon. Not only the perfect quality, and the good performance.

If you're going to be using it for video a lot and you intend to hand hold the camera and not invest in tons of extra equipment, Sony SLT is the only way to go. They are the only DSLR (not truly DSLRs but you can't tell the difference as far as usage goes) that allows for both continuous autofocus and use of the view finder rather than the LCD screen in video mode. If you are recording a video on the Nikon D5100 you would be holding it out at arm's length to watch the LCD and trying to keep it in focus, whereas video mode on the Sony SLTs is almost as easy as a camcorder. You can even do video camera effects like rack focus with ease. I have the SLT a77 and love it, especially the OLED viewfinder, but the entire line is great. They also offer a lot of things for still photography that other brands don't have, such as hand held twilight mode to get low light shots without ISO noise or blurring, continuous shooting fps rates that exceed even the top tier from Nikon and Canon, autofocus that locks on fast and in much lower light than I experience with my previous Canon T1i, and no viewfinder blackout between shots.

The more you feel you want video, the more you should lean toward Canon. The Canon company specializes in video where Nikon Is more purely Photo spec'ed. If you want a DSLR for this then I'd suggest reading up reviews for different models at DPreview.com

You can google that and the camera name to get an easy link to the review. Each review is a highly detailed, 30 page review. I'd advise you go here and take the time to decide which camera is for you. It can be a big investment.

The Canon t3 can shoot video. If you want High quality 1080 rez, you gotta go closer to the Canon 7D. You may not like the price though. If you want to make a Super Bowl commercial then you might wanna go with a Canon 1D

If you're taking more video than photos I think you may want to choose a Canon over a Nikon. They have better video settings and quality and are extremely popular for video. As for pure photography I think it may be an even split… At some price ranges each brand has its strengths but overall both are extremely good. The best entry level DSLRs are the Nikon D3100, D5100, Canon T3i, and T2i. Also remember lenses are very important too. Remember t get a very good lens too.
