This may sound like an obvious question but I have had my nikon d3300 for a week and there's a large dust spot in the viewfinder. It is not on the mirros, and does not spear on the images or image sensor. I have cleaned all surfaces in the body. It won't go away. I know repairing it is expensive and was wondering is this normal? And could it be covered by the default warranty?

No it is not normal, however if you have been changing lenses in dusty or windy areas, dust can certainly get into your camera's focusing screen as well as on your camera's mirror and sensor

Call Nikon and tell them what your problem seems to be. If the camera came out of the box with the dust in the viewfinder, then of course Nikon will clean it for you. However if you have not been careful keeping it protected when in dusty conditions, they may charge you a small fee to remove the dust.

I have owned 35 mm and digital SLR cameras for decades and have never had dust get into my focusing screen. That may be because I had to save so many years to afford my first camera that I took better care of it than any of my other possessions.

Since you registered your camera about a week ago, Nikon may clean it for no cost to you but for the shipping of it to them. All you can do is ask. Call the store you bought the camera from or ask Nikon. If you have carefully cleaned the glass going into the viewfinder and the glass coming out, and the dust is not on the mirror or sensor, there's some chance that it is inside the tunnel of the viewfinder, which would be a warranty issue with Nikon. Contact them. "I have cleaned all surfaces in the body."

No you haven't. There's a focusing screen at the top of the chamber. This is what you're looking at when you use the viewfinder.
