Take a look at the Nikon D3000 for $550: http://www.nikonusa.com/...D3000.html

Or the D5000 for $630: http://www.nikonusa.com/...D5000.html

"does all DSLRs have a remote so you can take pictures of yourself without making use of timer?"
-You can get an accessory remote right here: http://www.nikonusa.com/...ed%29.html

"does all DSLRs have detachable flash?"
-A Hot shoe mount? YES. If your talking about a dedicated external flash, you can find one here: http://www.nikonusa.com/...bs.Flashes

Now if you Really want video, you can go with the Nikon D3100 for $700: http://www.nikonusa.com/...D3100.html with full 1080p HD video.

No, all DSLR's do not have a remote. Some do some don't. I do not believe the lowest level Nikon or the Canon Rebel XS do. The Canon Rebel XSi does have one available for about $30.

All DSLR's have a hot shoe where you can mount a flash. The cameras come with a pop up flash. If you want a removeable one you will have to buy it. Cost is $200-$500 depending on the model.

You can also get radio triggers to remotely trip the shutter and flash. These are also a few hundred dollars or more.

Now as far as which cameras to look at check out the entry level Canon and Nikon models and play around with them. The one that feels best in your hands and has the features you want is the one to get. Both make excellent cameras.

DSLRs with flash have that usual built-in flash that you can't put off. You'd have to buy a new one 100$ - 600$.

Timer. All have timers, 2-10 seconds.

For below 700$, I recommend Canon EOS XS, XSi, T1i and Nikon D3100, D3100 and D5000.

Here's a post called 'Buying a DSLR, what's important, megapixels, features, brand, price, quality and which one to buy - http://www.the-dslr-photographer.com/2009/03/which-dslr-to-buy.html

Good luck! The site has many more tutorials and tips!
