Does the Nikon 1 J1 have bulb mode? And if so, how do you use it?
Yes it does.
But you need an optional ML-L3 infrared remote (they are not expensive).
You set the camera into bulb mode and to use the remote, and then depress the infrared remote once to open the shutter. The shutter will then stay open until you depress the remote again to close it.
So the ML-L3 remote opens and closes the shutter.
The exact step-by-step procedure is in your manual.
Yes, it does.
As explained starting on page 111 in your manual, you can use "Bulb" mode by either holding the shutter-release down or by using the remote, ML-L3.
You put the camera in Bulb mode with the control button in the upper right side of the back of the camera (it has a magnifying glass over a 3 square checkerboard). Press the shutter down to open the shutter, release it when you want to close it. This can also be done with the infrared remote, which I recommend.
