Does anyone own a Nikon 16-85vr lens which they use for events?

Looking for user reviews on this lens and also if anybody has used a 17-55 2.8 Nikon lens and how it compares to the above lens when shooting an event like a wedding or indoor party

They're apples and oranges for these purposes. The 17-55mm/2.8 is up to four times as fast as the 16-85mm VR in terms of shutter speed at 55mm.

Having VR helps with the low light situations in which you might use it as well of course, but it'll invite problems with motion blur then, which the 17-55mm won't suffer of to that degree. Hence i'd consider them to be totally different lenses - for event photography with moving people and no flash allowed the 17-55mm will be a far better choice.

If flash is allowed, then that changes the game again though.
