Do Nikon film slr lens work with Nikon digital cameras?
Do Nikon film slr lens work with Nikon digital cameras?
Yes as long as the lens has an F-mount like the current DSLR camera have
Depends what you mean by "work".
If you have a Nikon D40/D40X/D60/D3000/D3100/D5000 then the Nikon lens must have an auto-focus motor. If it does not, then you will be stuck in manual focus on these models of Nikon as they do not have an in-body auto-focus motor.
It depends on the DSLR you have and what your lenses are.
If you have manual focus lenses from after 1977 an old Nikon film camera, they'll mount and you can shoot with them. On any camera under the D7000, you won't metering. D7000 and above, they're more or less usable.
If they're autofocus lenses, they'll work and meter fine. However, if you have a D40/D40x/D60/D3000/D3100/D5000, autofocus won't work unless the lenses are AF-S or AF-I.
Yes.
That is the whole point of camera systems such as Nikon.
Nikon have changed their lens mount over the years, so not all Nikon lenses for film will work.
This site explains the current F lens mount, but there were ones before that will fit, but won't even meter as the current lenses don't have the earlier aperture ring.

Only Pentax has true backwards compatability with any K mount lens made since 1973.
