I'm looking for a camera for shooting videos and I was wondering if I should look at Canon or Nikon? Are there major differences between the two?

Both Nikon and Canon cameras have been used to shoot made for television series, the Canon 5D, Mark II for one of the "House" episodes and a Nikon D4 for the last season of "Dexter".

These were more proof of usage productions because the "best" video camera is indeed a video camera.

Since the sensors on Nikon digital SLR cameras generally perform better in the areas of colour depth, dynamic range and performance in low light (high ISO), one would expect when Full HD video is being shot, the Nikon sensor should have a tiny edge (since only 2.1 mp of the cameras sensors are used)

Nikon introduced the first digital SLR with a "video feature", the Nikon D90. Canon ran with this idea when they introduced the Canon 5D, Mark II.

There are some "hacks" for Canon cameras which video hobbyists like to use, but if you are asking about a camera for shooting serious, scripted video, then look at video cameras that use P2 or CFast memory cards. They are the only cards to date that can shoot Full HD or later 4K and keep up with the data streams created by these cameras.

It is your money, but when I'm assigned to shoot video, I use a video camera and leave the digital SLR or SLT cameras to the hobbyists

The link below shows the sensor performance of digital SLR and SLT cameras, from best to okay

Nikon does not make video cameras. Canon does. If you want cheaper, see Sony. If you want better, see Sony.

The best cameras for a mix of stills and video are the Sony (2-digit) SLTs, not true DSLRs, but they allow video shooting through the viewfinder, making them a better prospect than ANY true DSLR. Nikon use Sony sensors.

If all you want is video, Nikon don't make video cameras.

Oh, and you have to be Really stupid to ask, "Canon or Nikon?" an experienced photographer will treat you with utter contempt, so I strongly advise you never to do it again.
