Can you name good HD cameras?

I'm thinking of getting a camera, I don't know what is the best brand.
Is Nikon good? Canon? If you think that there are better ones, please share the brand + type.

CANON

I've had Nikon and Canon. They are both very good! I think I prefer Nikon to Canon, though… I like the picture quality a lot better. We have a D5000, and it has some pretty sweet features, some that I never noticed on our Canons. But you should consider that my experience is with 5 and 6 year old Canons. I switched to Nikon about 3 years ago. They have both probably improved quite a bit. But I'd go with a Nikon.
