Can I return my 55-200mm Nikon lens to Best Buy?

I've had it for probably a week or two now, and I wasn't aware of the 55-300mm lens. Needless to say, it makes sense for me that I go ahead and see if I can return my 55-200mm and exchange it for a 55-300mm. I wasn't entirely sure about how this would all work out, however. The lens I have now was $220 when I bought it, so I figure I'd get that back in store credit, and I could just pay them the extra $100 for the 55-300mm when I get there.

I just wasn't sure if I CAN return my lens for the new one, though. It's still in perfect condition, and I still have all the boxing and packaging. Should there be any problems?

Added (1). And yes, I do still have the receipt.

Added (2). Also, the original Best Buy I made the purchase at is rather far away (it's in-state and everything, but it was about a one hour drive out there for other reasons). Do I have to return it at the Best Buy I bought the lens at? The Best Buy nearest me has both the lens I have and the one I want to return it for. Should I be able to return mine and get the other one there?

Discuss the matter with the manager of the store where you bought it. Most electronics are not returnable because you may have misused it.

You should be able to

really there's only one way to find out, and that is to go ahead and try to do it.

just go to the nearest best buy, they're all linked, meaning you can buy something at bestbuy 1 and return it at best buy 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6

explain your case and they might let you return it. If I remember correctly, best buy has a 15 day return policy on photographic equipment

Yes, as long as it has been within 14 days and you have the receipt you can return it to any store. BUT… You will probably be charged a 15% ($33) restocking fee, since they can't resell the returned lens as new, it becomes one of those "open items" that are always on sale there.

Call and ask. Every store has different policies.
