Can any camera lens go with any camera?
My cousin bought a Nikon FM3a SLR and she wants to know if any nikon lens can be applied to it.
new or old.
No-only certain ones
Pretty much yes
The Nikon FM3a is a film 35mm slr. Therefore, you'll need a full-frame (fx) type lens, or else the corners of the image will be cut off. As it doesn't have a command dial to control the aperture, you can't use any of the G series lenses either.
Every Nikon lens will mount, but the degree of compatibility will vary.
No it shold be compatible with camera
No, not just any Nikon lens can be mounted. Only specific types. These include the following F-mount lens types:
AI, AI-S, series E, AI-P, AF, and AF-D. All these lenses will mount and meter.
What won't work:
Autofocus DX type lenses and AF-G lenses will mount BUT will not fully work. For example AF-G lenses have no way to set the aperture on an FM3a and DX lenses will not cover the whole image area of your film frame.
