Don't use a cable to transfer images from a camera to a computer.

Instead, remove the SD card from the camera
and insert it in the card reader in your computer.

If your computer doesn't have a card reader,
you can get an external one for a very reasonable price.
It will connect to a USB port.

Standard small USB to normal USB cable. Buy in any camera retailer or IT store. Take your camera with you if you feel uncertain.

Indeed you can take the card out of the camera and put into the SD slot in your computer, or into a card reader if your computer does not have a card slot, but even many pros do use a cable such as I have described.

It is a moot point whether there's more risk of damage in using a cable, or constantly taking the card out of the camera.
