Are European electronic products sold with region specific power cords?
I'm curious to know if products sold in Europe (and other non-US countries too) are sold with power cords for the region in which they are sold. For example, with Nikon digital cameras, are they the same camera, but just have a different power cord? Or are there different digital camera brands altogether?
Yes, as a rule. I'm in the UK, so devices bought here will usually ship with a 3 pin uk plug. Sometimes, they may come with a choice in the box, such as a 2 pin euro plug for the rest of Europe. This is often a result of one manufacturer producing a product that will be easier to distribute.
As you say, normally in the case of something like a camera the actual product is the same, but with a different plug.
For warranty purposes (or software/firmware/language updates or instructions, returns) some products though identical (like a camera) may be the same but just have a differing model number to identify a USA sold product. An example of this was the Canon EOS camera, which in the UK was the EOS 300 but in the USA i think it was called the Rebel. Same camera, but different warranties according to laws, different power plug for charging.
