Anybody have advice on new Nikon 1?
I currently have a fujifilm slr. I like it but i like the pictures that my friends camera takes better which is a nikon slr. I was thinking about getting the Nikon 1 with the detachable lenses because I'm very into photography. I don't consider myself talented with photography but I enjoy taking nice pictures.anybody have the camera that can give me input on it? Or even send me a picture or two they took with it?
It's a mirrorless gimmick
fujifilm doesn't make SLR cameras anymore, are you sure you don't have a bridge camera?
if you want to get into photography, get an actual DSLR from Nikon or Canon
Your friend takes better pictures because he or she is a better photographer. Ask your friend for photography lessons if you want your pictures to look like theirs.
Btw mirrorless is not a gimmick. They're great cameras if they meet your needs.
The Nikon 1 has a smaller sensor than any of it's competitors, and well, it's rather nothing really. Better choices are the far more advanced Fujifilm X1, Sony's sector leading Nex range, or anything that uses the common Micro 4/3rds systems. Nikon's 1 is too little, too late, and too lame - and is already being heavily discounted in some dominions due to poor sales.
With all the interchangeable mini-systems, there's only a point to them if there's a range of lenses available!
Nikon SLRs, sure fine go ahead, but the Nikon 1 will just disappoint.
The Nikon 1 series cameras are in a unique position. Small enough to put in your purse or briefcase, yet with a sensor that is much larger than a P&S camera which uses interchangeable lenses.
It has something other easily portable cameras like P&S cameras do not.
* as mentioned, interchangeable lenses
* able to shoot continuously at frame rates of 5, 10, 30 or 60 fps
* shoot in RAW
* much larger sensor
* a fast high shutter speed of 1/16, 000, two stops faster than entry level dSLR's
* a slow shutter speed of 30 seconds for those who what to shoot streaming lights at night
* full manual operation
* Movie (HD 16:9), Movie Slow Motion (8:3), Motion Snapshot (16:9)
* White balance fine tuning.
Time will tell if this type camera becomes popular (it has taken off in the UK and was one of the top selling "non-dSLR" cameras there
Yes, I do. Run away from it! If you're into photography, buy a Nikon D3100 for the same price.
The Nikon 1 has no viewfinder you can look through. No hot-shoe for a flash.
A viewfinder is important because the LCD screen often becomes washed out in outdoor situations. The hot shoe is important because the tiny little pop up flash often is too weak to use.
You're better off with a bridge camera or a D-SLR.
If you are setting your camera to mximum image quality i.e. Highest pixel amount or "fine"then look for another camera, However I suspect that if you have Fuji which retailed at $170 or above you may be setting your camera incorrectly!
It is a complete ripoff.

The Nikon 1 system falls in between DSLRs and compact cameras
