Any compact cameras that have the lens on the far side?
I need a camera thats compact and has its lens on the far side to be able to use it on my gimbal. The thing is, there are very few of them. I've seen action cams but I need an interface in which I have a lot of control over. Some camera examples are the fujifilm finepix z2d, the fujifilm finepix 120, the nikon aw130 and w300, but I want to see more options. Please not old ones as their quality is just horrible.
A canon camera would be best
This is a very odd way to proceed. Normally one decides the kind of image / footage desired, considers the shooting conditions, selects the most appropriate imaging device(s), then any accessories required are sought on the basis of compatibility. Why are you working back from a gimbal? It makes no sense to restrict your choice of the most critical equipment in order to accommodate a supporting device.
None, except the ones with the lens in the very top corner or the cheap 'badged' Kodaks and Vivitars have the lens far over. A Sony W350 might be as far across as a normal compact goes. What about a bracket for the gimbal mount?
* Those you mentioned are listed under "rugged" or "waterproof" cameras now.
** Perhaps you really need a smartphone with plenty of settings control?
The Panasonic Lumix DC-GX850 (GX800/GF9) is offset some. How much does it have to be to the far side?
So is the Sony Alpha a5100.
