50mm 1.4g or 24-85mm lens for nikon d600?
I just recently purchased the nikon d600, and i was wondering which lens is the best overall?
Since 50mm is a normal perspective on FX, and 24 megapixels will magnify a lens's deficiencies, the 50mm can probably provide a lot of useful service. Even so, the zoom range of the 24-85mm is likely to be desirable in many situations.
The best one overall is the 24-85mm. It gives you decent wide, normal, and telephoto performance in one lens.
The 50mm gives you better technical image quality and much better low light performance, but you are stuck at one focal length. With digital, an f/1.4 aperture simply isn't required any more (new professional zooms are standardizing on f/4 instead of f/2.8 because of it) and the depth of field is paper thin when wide open.
