Want to make a short film?

I would like to make a short film but it would be my first one so i need advice. It's not going to be a sketch or anything. I was going to base it off of a poem like Fire and Ice by Robert Frost but i can't seem to think of anything. I think i still plan on basing it off of a quote, poem, speech, etc. Anything in mind?
Also any tips on making the film? I have experience taking pictures with my Nikon D5100 which is what I'll be using but nothing more than photography. No cinematography. I would like to get into it though. Suggestions for beginners?

First you need a script.

Once you have that, you need to break it down into a shooting script so you do not go back to the same scene time after time

You can't make a FILM with a digital camera. They shoot video.

After you have all your scenes shot, you will need a semi-fast computer and a video editing program.

Remember that if shooting indoors, you need to remember to add light so that you will not be shooting at high ISO's
