For a beginner/ person new to DSLR cameras, I would recommend getting the canon rebel t3i since its one of the easiest DSLRs to use and still takes amazingly good quality photos and videos. Later down when you have become more familar and skill full using DSLRs then you can upgrade if the need arises to. I keep my t3i until now and still uses it as one of my primary cameras.
Also, I recommend getting it at amazon as they have really reasonable prices
You can get the t3i along with the standard 18-55mm plus 55-250 mm zoom lenses for just $759
see here http://www.amazon.com/...004QDA4A8/
It also comes with a full accessories kit comprising of a 16GB SD card for your camera, Replacement Battery, Tripod which you will definitely need for steady shots and videos, lens cleaning kit and much more

The D5200 is the update for the D5100, Nikon has improved the video capability on the D5200 and included an on board stereo mic… If you don't need the better video spec, you could save yourself a fair amount of cash by buying the D5100 at the knock down price… That's what I did…

… Best to pop into a camera store and handle a few cameras in your price range before comitting to a purchase, you should check out the Pentax range too their cameras are worth just as much consideration as Canon and Nikon models… Either the D5100 or D5200 would give you years of enjoyment…

I recommend Canon EOS Rebel T3 12.2 MP CMOS Digital SLR with 18-55m

I purchased this camera a few days ago and I've had nothing but FUN with it! Aside from my simple Kodak Easyshare point and shoot, I had a Canon EOS Elan 7 (35mm) and had been wanting to switch it over to Digital for several years. The longer I waited, the better the camera's got and more affordable they became.

I decided on the Canon T3 mostly because of the affordable price. (Nearly 1/2 of the T3i) I felt like I was getting a very good value for my money. I was right!

This camera takes amazing photo's! Clear, crisp, true color.
It's very easy to use, right out of the box.
Fit's all my old lenses and the remote from the Elan 7
All the advanced manual settings I could want topped with the instant gratification of seeing how the settings affect the picture instantly.

This camera allows you to use live screen shooting which so many people like these days and it takes HD video.

The 12 megapixels is plenty even when enlarging OVER 11 x 14".

For a lower end Canon DSLR, it's a huge value for the money. This camera is an excellent choice for the hobbiest/enthusiast.

I'm So glad I purchased it!
