Nikon SB-80DX Flash on Pentax K-01?

I need advice on how to handle both of these components together. I recently bought me a Pentax K01 and in need of an external flash. Before I set off buying any more equipment, I still have my Nikon Speedlite SB-80DX that I would love to use. My question is, will I still get functionality if I used this flash in Manual mode-both on slave equppied or attached to my hot shoe? I've used this flash for older SLRs and DSLRs Nikon branded but never for Pentax. Any suggestions would be greatful, judt trying to be resourceful and save money.

Why don't you just try for yourself.

Generally, dedicated flash units for one camera system will not work well (if at all) with other camera systems.

This is especially true when attempting to use a Canon electronic flash on a Nikon. The contact arrays do not match up.

All you can do is do your own tests.

Usually the most economic path is to use a single camera system, not attempting to mix and hopefully match.

As you have seen, selling one camera system to buy another can get very expensive, very quickly. This is why it is so important to do your research and then pick one camera system and stick with it for at least a decade or more

I would recommend using Nikon because the Nikon last for a long time, I have been using D70 for 6 years now and it's still working just fine. Loving it.

Yes it should work, the centre pin is for firing the flash - the other contacts are for TTL information (which you won't be using in manual).

You would likely need the camera in manual exposure mode and the flash in manual output mode - dial in the flash power you require.

An alternative is to get a radio trigger - that will definitely work firing the flash off camera. I use RF602 triggers - about £20 a set). The transmitter sits on the hotshoe & the receiver goes on the flash foot. Again, both will need to be in manual.

The radio trigger will give the best results, using the manual control of the SB-80.
