Will the sb-80dx work in TTL mode on nikon D100?

I have a Nikon D-100, which uses the older D-TTL system. I know for sure that the sb-50dx will work using the flash triggering system, but I would much rather have the sb-80dx. Has anyone used this system for the 80dx? Also, If the 80dx isn't compatible with the flash triggering system them how would I be able to use it off camera. I'm wanting to get stands and umbrellas. So, I would need more then the arms length. Thank you!

Added (1). Also if the optical slave system won't work with umbrellas and the flash cord is not long enough. Is there anything else that will work with my model camera to achieve this type of speed light setup? I'm wanting to use 2 flashes.

Yes it works with the D100, the dx designation on Nikon speedlights indicates the first generation of TTL flashes. If you want to put it on stands you can get the SC-17 coiled flash cord, it will easily extend to arms length, it doesn't have wireless capabilities though.

Actually it will work in slave mode to the D100 without the cable. The D100 has a flash controller built in and the SB-80DX will respond to that controller.

Umbrellas may prevent the line of sight needed by an optical system, you'd have to be very careful about how you place them.

Yes it will work. The D100 pop-up flash does not have the commander mode that the Nikon AWL/CLS uses though.

You could get radio triggers to fire the flash off camera in a cordless solution, but you won't have TTL with cheaper triggers. I use RF602 triggers - you just need to set the flash power output manually on the SB-80DX.

Actually lighting manually like this will be a lot more consistent than relying on TTL (auto) flash.
