Camera wise, Dollar for dollar it is more a matter of habit and ergonomics, take your pick.

But stay in and grow with the hobby and eventually you will need customer service/ repair. CanonUSA has never let me down.

None of the both is above any other. When we compare on paper nikon may look better bt when we go practically things are very diffrent more no of AF points on nikon makes does adds a little edge to it bt i think for a pro or even an ammature can take good shots with canon(imeean can focous as good as canon with less AF POINTS) once he gets used to
but the colour tone of canon is awsome(my personal feeling) and video performance of nikon is worse
i'm pesonally a wildlife photographer there's nothing like you have to go for a specific brand for a specific type of photography
the best way to know your match is to go to store and try them
never go by seeing the no of AF ponts frames per sec and other features

and definetely never follow the words of the fans eather of nikon or canon
(well finding a lot of nikon fans in blogs and forums nowadays)

Canon bodies are more expensive but lenses are cheaper and vice-verse with Nikon. Many Nikon cameras have higher Dxo scores but Canon cameras are generally reputed to be fuss-free.

In the end, you can opt for Canon / Nikon / Sony / Pentax / Fuji bodies. The real cost lies in lenses.

Sony lenses are limited but available for a sufficient optical range and have high quality glass. Canon and Nikon are leaders in lens-options.

Oh, I thought you were wondering why people kept on asking this stupid question.

Just because they bray so loudly that idiots can hear them, doesn't mean that they're the best - or anywhere near it.

There's no, 'Best,' beyond the way a camera feels in your hands, and these two are only competitive when it comes to DSLRs. Their bridge models (particularly Nikon's dire L-series) are nothing to write home about, and their compacts are over-priced.

Work out a budget, talk to a dealer, and look at some suggestions that don't make you look like you need to evolve.

Consumer level Canon DSLRs have smaller sensors… Everyone else; Nikon, Pentax, Sony all have 10% larger sensors in their DSLRs.

But if you compare the professional level DSLRS ($6, 000), they all have the same size sensors.

But Canon makes the best cheap compact cameras.
