Nikon 1 lens with manual focus?

I have a nikon 1 j1 and I'm going into an intro to photography class that requires me to have manual focus. The lens I currently have can't manually focus but I know the camera has the capability to manually focus. Do any of the new Nikon 1 lenses have the ability to be focused manually or do I need to buy the adapter and another Nikon lens. If I do need to buy the adapter do I have to buy the Nikon brand lens adapter or is there a third party brand that I can purchase for cheaper?

You did not mention which model Nikon 1 you are using.

I use a V2 and on page 55 of the user manual, manual focus is discussed.

Look in your user manual under Focus Mode and you will find what you need

The lenses for this camera do not have manual focusing rings however you have two options to achieve manual focusing.

#1 Spend money.

If you want a lens with manual focus you will need to buy the FT1 mount adapter.

Then buy a new lens to go with it, the 50mm f/1, 8D is one of the cheapest.

#2 USe the very archaic MF from the J1, but you'll save money.

Here's the step to follow:

-Set Focus Mode to MF.
-Press OK on the Menu Selector to engage manual focus.
-Push Playback zoom/thumbnail control up to zoom in, push down to zoom out.
-Rotate Menu Selector dial clockwise to go from Macro to Infinity, counter-clockwise from Infinity to Macro.

If you truly like your hybride camera and you think you'll be buying another one in the future then buying the adapter with another lens is justifiable.

If you have doubt about your camera and you might want to change it for a dslr in the future then maybe you should save your money and use the MF from your J1.
