Nikon D40 auto focus fine, manual focus not working?

I've had this lens for just over a year now, treated it fairly well, carry it around in a camera bag.

Basically my auto focus is working fine, it will focus far away and close.

But when I switch to manual it won't let me turn it easily, just like as if it were in auto focus and you tried to focus manually.

I haven't dropped it, I have a neck strap so please don't lecture me.

I don't think it can be broken because it will focus in auto mode… Surely it can still move in manual?

Please Help AS THIS CAMERA IS MY BABY! Xx

My wonderful father has found a solution!

The switch from auto focus to manual body was slightly twisted over the 'zoom ring' (I don't know the technical term - the part you twist to zoom in an out).

Just push this gently but firmly (it needs stregth but don't go too far) back into it's original place! VOILA!

Hope this helped anybody having an emotional breakdown too! XD

No never had that problem. I use Canon lenses and I've had no problems with my lenses but thanks for the advice.

I'm guessing you have tried to manually focus the lens while it was set to AF mode. That's the most probable reason the AF/MF switch is slightly off it's natural position. Consider yourself lucky the AF motor wasn't damaged. Next time, when you set the lens to AF, do not manually focus it. If you want to use manual focusing, set lens to MF.
