I want to buy a decent, not to expensive camera for myself but have no idea where to start. I've heard the Canon rebel is a good starter camera and have seen bundle deals with several lenses and other accessories. So what are your suggestions on a decent starter camera?

The Canon Rebel is the name for the series of cameras, not a single camera. I don't have much experience with canon, but I have had good experiences with the Nikon D3200.
I suggest you get the Nikon D3200 + 18-55mm kit lens.
If you are willing to spend more, add the 35mm f1.8 AF-S to your collection. Good luck! If you want a decent starter camera, you don't have to spend that much on a DSLR. You can buy an advanced point-n-shoot camera like Panasonic Lumix FZ70 which is pretty awesome for $250 or so. You'll find it more than amazing and will give you way decent result than a basic DSLR with kit lens. Hello
Selection varies from one to another depending on several things, including: budget, your experience in photography, type of photography that you want to learn (portrait…), … Etc.
Canon rebel are good cameras, but their sensor is small compare to Nikon DSLR cameras, so let me give you a simple answer to your question, and keeps you away from hard to understand details:
1- Best beginner camera is Nikon D3xxx series because they are easy to use, and made for absolute beginners or normal use.
2- DSLR camera are noting without their lenses, so you need to buy a standard lens 18-55mm, or the best lens for beginner 35mm (buy just one of them).
3- Some accessories as: books for learn photography, bag for protection, cleaning kit accessory…
4- If you Love Canon company, so i recommend Canon T5i because it is a very good entry level DSLR camera, that will work with any starter in photography.

Have a good luck
