Is the Nikon d3000 good for portrait photography?
I know it depends mostly on the lens. But, would you say this camera could carry me through some free lance photography (I.e.seniors, weddings, portraits)?
I don't have a lot of money, so the used d3000s are the perfect price for me. Would you say it's versatile? Can it suit beginners, intermediates, and professionals alike?
Or, since I already know the basics of photography (light, rule of thirds, leading lines, shutter speed, aperture, diaphragm), should I save more money and not get an entry level camera?
My mother has that camera, and I use it sometimes. I'm a photography major at University, and I think that this would be a fine camera. Too many people place importance in the equipment rather than talent, and it should be the opposite. All in all, it would be a decent camera to get.
It's a good camera - in the right hands & with the right lenses (fast zooms or primes).
You say you don't have a lot of money - well wedding photography is NOT the field to be looking into then. You'll need fast glass, a backup body ('sorry' won't cut it with the bride if your primary camera packs up & you don't have a backup), plus at least a couple of off camera speedlights.
You're better off buying a cheaper body (like the D3000) and investing in good glass - which will last you a good long time, even after you upgrade the body later.
Oh… And aperture & diaphragm are the same thing.
Nikon D3000 is good. I'm 14 and I have a Nikon D5000, and it works fairly well. Invest in a good lens. Also, it's the pianist, not the piano. Maybe you can get a hand me down D200.
