Is it good the brand new Vivitar V3800 35mm Reflex that Walmart is selling?

A couple of years ago I would have believed that the Nikon FM 10 was the only 'brand new' Reflex film camera in the market… However, these days Walmart is offering the Vivitar V3800 as a cheap option to the FM 10. I've always wanted to own a brand new reflex film camera and this seems to be a good chance, but who is behind this camera, I mean who makes it and what can I expect from this camera?

The Vivitar brand by itself has never said anything since they only 'mark', distribute and sell to customers many photography items, from bags and flashes to lenses and some cameras…
What I'm trying to say is that while one 'Vivitar' product might be great, another one could be a disaster… A reflex film camera kit for $147 sounds as a very good choice -even above the not-Nikon FM 10, which es a Contax made camera-, but the key here would be to find out who is making that camera!

To my mind Vivitar went silly after being taken over by Hanimex in the 1970s - Hanimex is always the kiss of death as far as quality is concerned. What lens mount does that Vivitar reflex have? If not a popular one then it will be hard to get lenses to fit. Best to get a reflex with a Pentax K, or Nikon, or Minolta mount. That camera will probably be an early model from one of the good brands, but copied and flung together in a sweatshop in the Far East.

Does anybody else apart from Walmart offer the Vivitar SLR? Do any good camera stores offer that camera?

The Vivitar is actually a rebadged Phenix camera. They are cheap, but reasonably OK.
