Hi, I'm no expert in cameras (know nothing at all) So I'm travelling with the family (tourism) and I wanted a camera just for capturing memories. You know I could have used a mobile camera or something but they make me look bad and I actually look better in reality. So thats what I need a camera that captures photos of someone making them look decent or at least the way they look like in reality not making me uglier and thats it. I don't need it for video so don't talk about it, mostly just photos. I was thinking about DSLRs but there are a range of prices and things, would the cheapest DSLR do or what. If there's a better or cheaper option please tell me about it.

While some do it intuitively, the rest of us have to learn it.

Much of today's travel photography is done with the smart phone. The latest ones do a quite decent job in good light. It has the advantage of portability and is usually always with you. "The best camera is the one you have with you."

If you want a "real" camera, then yes, the cheapest DSLR can get great results. Look at the Nikon D3300, Canon T5, and Pentax K-50. One of the advantages of the Pentax K-50 is that the body is weather sealed. A good thing on a rainy day. Any DSLR would definitely exceed your expectations. But, then again, so would a good mirrorless like the Sony A6000 or A6300, or their A7 series.

The reason that the camera itself doesn't really matter much is because it's the lens that can either make you look bad or good. Getting a larger format camera such as the APS-C or full-frame cameras use longer lenses than small formats. Therefore you'll be using longer lenses which flatten the facial features which create a flattering look. The shorter the lens, the more distortion you'll get.

Of course, none of this matters if the person using it doesn't know what they're doing. If you want yourself in the photo then you need one with an articulating back screen. Canon T5i or the more expensive new T6i, or Nikon D5300 or new 5500.
Now, would you be happy carrying something like a little brick around your neck all day which becomes a thief magnet when you put it down?

I suggest you think about one of these:
