Got a new Canon 70D with 18.135mm kit lens. Is a 35mm 14 L lens a worthy second lens?

I previously had a nikon d5200 with kit lens and a 35mm 1.8 prime. Sold that set to try something new with canon and upgrade to a a more pro consumer camera the 70D.

I liked the 35mm since it was sharp, nice bokeh and acted as a nifty 50 on a crop sensor.

thinking of going all out for canon 35mm L 1.4 lens.

Is it a good prime lens to invenst it? Or put it towards like a 24-70mm 2.8 L?

From what you say the 35mm f/1.4 is the lens for you!
Go for it!

The Canon 35mm 1.4 L is very expensive at around $2000.

Photozone.de tested it and it is one of the sharpest lenses, if not the sharpest lens canon lens:

But the new Sigma A 35mm 1.4 also tested very well, though I feel photozone has been fudging some of the figures because of brand bias due to their commercial interests with canon and nikon. So nowadays it getting harder to form a clear picture due to the duplicitous nature of professional photographers. Here's the Sigma test:

Below is a video that does not concur with the photozone test, and shows the Sigma to be considerably superior to the Canon. The Canon is circa 1990's and the Sigma is 2013. The newer the lens, the better. Go for the Sigma, its more than half the price, and is better.

If yo decide to go with the 24-70, go the Tamron with VC, it is better than the canon equivalent including the newer 2nd version (The tamron is equally sharp through the full zoom range, the Canon II is not sharp at the long end but sharp at the wide). There should be a Sigma 24-70 coming too, and no doubt it too will defeat the OEM lenses. But 24-70 FF lens will make it 38-112mm on cop body rendering it almost useless.

If you have to ask, you don't need L glass.
