Nikon SLR Cameras

Which camera will give a better photo, a 50x zoom camera or a camera with a 18-55 lens?

I'm new to DSL Rs confused and between Canon EOS 600d, Canon EOS 550d, Nikon D5100, Nikon D3100
and a Sony HX 300
My family is asking me to buy the Sony Hx300 as the camera has to be used for domestic purpose also.

The lens which they are providing with Canon and Nikon cameras is 18-55mm and lenses with higher focal lengths are very expensive (can't afford them, as for now) plus I'm not a professional user.

I don't know the extent of your knowledge, but the larger the sensor, the higher resolution the image can be, given that you have the skills necessary to use a camera with a large sensor

A 50X zoom can only be associated with a P&S camera which has a sensor that is over 15 times smaller than any of the dSLR cameras you listed.

Here is a link to three of the dSLR cameras and the performance of their sensors.

Since the Canon 550D and 600D sensors are nearly identical, I will list the 600D

As you can see, the D5100 sensor out performs the other two.

This statement is not relevant since these cameras are entry level cameras. A professional camera would cost you a minimum of $3, 000 and you would have to buy your own lens

Learn from my former mistakes and follow my advice. Do not buy anything that says kit. Just buy only a body, and invest your money on either a portrait lens, zoom lens, prime lens, tele lens etc. You'll be spending a lot of money on stuff that you don't need.a great camera to start out is t3i.
