What's an image sensor?

What's the thing that gives a much more clear image? My friend said the image sensor gives it, is it true or not? Cause I was planning to buy Nikon D3100 but said it's not good enough and to buy, I'm planning my work to be on models & photo/weddings

The camera is marginal for weddings, but you're nowhere near ready.

The sensor records the image and passes it to the storage medium (SD card in this case) for storage.

$1000 will get you an entry-level DSLR, but not the kind of kit used by professionals, and it will take years to build up the necessary experience for what you plan to do.

The D3100 is an excellent camera and has an excellent sensor.

If you have the skills, you can produce amazing photos with ANY dSLR

If you want a better camera (one with a better performing sensor) look at the Nikon D3200. The Nikon D7000 has a sensor that performs similar performance, but can use all the Nikkor AF, AF-I and AF-S lenses as well as any manual focus Nikkor AI lenses.

This is what a image sensor does. It clears up the image for the best picture electronically. Sometimes it is manually activated by slightly depressing the shutter button, then when you fully depress on the shutter button the picture is taken. I can't answer your second question as to what camera to purchase. I would go to several specialty camera shops and asked a lot of questions. There are also several good magazines on photography that you can read at the library for free.
