I just bought a Nikon d3200. The camera seems to work great i'm just having two problems. I got two lens's and the 55-200mm lens won't work, when I try to use it it says no lens attached even though it is (properly), and also I got a speedlight but I can't get it to slide on, This is my first dslr so i'm not sure if its me or the items

any info/advice would be appreciated!

Additional Details

I also got a 18-55mm lens and it works perfectly fine.

I was playing with it some more and with the 55-200mm lens it will allow me to take photo's in manual without the pop up flash, but in auto it still says no lens attached?

also for the d3200 is it normal for it to fall asleep fairly fast?

sorry if these are stupid questions, i'm a first time user

**reposting b/c of the new details

Make sure the lens is properly mounted. You should hear a click when mounting it. If the lens is not recognized by the camera at all, return both camera and lenses to the store and have the people there sort it out. You are entitled to a replacement within the first few days after purchase so have the receipt in hand just in case.

The flash should slide without problems. Take off the hot shoe cover first then make sure the lock on the flash foot is loose before you slide it in.

You should be able to control the time before the camera sleeps. Check the manual.

Read all the manuals even just once and go read it again when yo have problems before asking here. Most questions are answered by the manuals more comprehensively.

Regarding the sleep timer, you can adjust the timeout period. Look for "Auto off timers" in the index of your manual.

The 55-200 lens, either it isn't mounted properly or it is defective. Since you can mount the 18-55 lens properly, I'll guess that the lens has a problem. Return it back to the vendor or send it in for repair at Nikon. Lenses have a 1 year warranty plus an additional 4 year USA extended warranty (grey market isn't covered).
